MLA 9th Style Guide: Works Cited Page Citation Examples

Works Cited Page Citation Examples

The Works Cited page lists the long citations for all the sources you cited in your paper and is included at the end of your paper. The purpose of a Works Cited page is to not only give credit to content creators but to give the reader all the information needed to find the sources that you used. All citations are listed alphabetically, by the first piece of information (usually the author, but title would be next if a source does not have an author). If there is no author and the title begins with a number, you would place the source alphabetically as if you were spelling out the number (for example, "5 Tips" would go after author Díaz-Loving on a Works Cited page because Five starts with F, which comes after D.

Items found using an online database (such as those provided by CSN Libraries), items found on the free web (such as those you found using a search engine like Google), and items found in print are all cited differently.

To see examples of what each citation should look like, choose the type of material you want to cite from the list on the left.
