Welcome to the library guide for ENG 100 with Professor Laura McBride! My name is Emily Pattni and I will be your librarian for this course. I am here to help you develop the important research skills that will help you to succeed not only in this class, but throughout your whole college career.
If you have any questions about how to cite in MLA format, finding sources, or anything research-related, please reach out to me by scheduling a quick Zoom appointment, emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or messaging me in Canvas. Please use the "Schedule Appointment" button to the right to see my availability or email me if you don't see a time that works for you.
For the research project in this class, you may choose articles from the following 9 news sources. Although some of these newspapers are available for free online, many will introduce a "paywall" offering all or select articles to online readers only if you subscribe. As CSN students, you have complete access to these newspapers through the CSN Library website.
1. Click any of the following links which will lead you to the news source through the library website.
2. A pop-up box should appear prompting you to sign-in to receive full access. Enter your student ID number for your username and your Canvas password. *Note: The BBC does not have a paywall so I am linking to the BBC website itself.
3. You can now enter search terms into the search bar to find articles related to your topic such as "artificial intelligence" or "gun control." If you found an article searching google but it wouldn't show the full text, you can enter the title of the article in the search bar or browse through the correct year/month it was published.
4. If you need any help at all, feel free to email me at email@example.com or use the library chat box on the right-hand side to reach a librarian.
Librarians are available online to help you with any questions you may have! Submit your questions using this chat box. If we are not online, we will respond to your question within 24 hours.
